Suwon, Republic of Korea 25 October 2017 – More than 400 international stakeholders from 98 countries gathered today in Suwon, Republic of Korea, to review the implementation of adult learning and education across the world. At a global meeting organized jointly by the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) and the two cities of Suwon and Osan in the Republic of Korea, participants shared concerns about the mixed progress achieved in providing adult learning and education opportunities to youth and adults in different countries and regions of the world.

Cork, Ireland, 18 September 2017 - More than 700 local government representatives from more than 80 countries across the world will attend UNESCO’s third International Conference on Learning Cities, which opens today in Cork, Ireland. More than half the world’s population live in cities, with the proportion expected to rise to two-thirds by 2050. To achieve all-round development, the central role of cities in creating change, fostering inclusion and promoting sustainability must be fully recognized and explored.

Hamburg, 19 January 2017 – 16 cities from around the globe will receive the UNESCO Learning City Award this year. The award will be conferred on the cities during the third International Conference on Learning Cities in Cork, Ireland, which will take place from 18 to 20 September 2017.

Hamburg, 22 September 2016 – The Global Alliance for Literacy within the Framework of Lifelong Learning (GAL), a UNESCO led initiative aiming to advance the global literacy agenda, has elected its Executive Management Bureau. The Bureau comprises seven representatives of various world regions.
