The CONFINTEA Portal is an entry point to the follow-up process of the Sixth International Conference on Adult Education (CONFINTEA VI). Its overall purpose is to monitor the comprehensive CONFINTEA agenda at the heart of which is the promotion of adult learning and education in a lifelong and life-wide perspective. Its particular focus is to track the implementation of the Belém Framework for Action, adopted at CONFINTEA VI in December 2009.
Collecting and displaying information on national, regional and international activities undertaken in pursuance of the Belém Framework for Action by governments and civil society, by multi-lateral partners, and by UIL and UNESCO as a whole, the CONFINTEA Portal serves as a window to the progress in the field of adult learning and education. Seeing itself as a dynamic tool and gradually enlarging its scope of data with the active contributions from all stakeholders, the Portal is responding to the call for an open-access knowledge management system in support of Member States as spelled out in the Belém Framework for Action.
For the time being, the areas of action covered by the CONFINTEA Portal comprise follow-up activities in the five world regions, namely regional or sub-regional follow-up conferences, regional cooperation projects as well as thematic research and development projects with a regional scope. Areas of action also embrace specific CONFINTEA follow-up activities at global level, which are either part of UNESCO’s explicit mandate for the monitoring of the Belém Framework for Action or which constitute significant support elements for the coordination, monitoring, reporting and capacity building of the CONFINTEA follow-up.
You are cordially invited to navigate through the pages and links of the Portal, and to get in touch with UIL wherever information is incomplete, or where it might be inadequate.
