First Meeting of the UIL Governing Board 21–24 May, 2007

20 mai 2007

The Governing Board of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning will hold its first session from 21 to 24 May 2007 in Hamburg. The Governing Board of UIL consists of 12 educationists recruited worldwide and appointed by the Director-General of UNESCO. It will meet annually to review work performed, discuss audit and budget and plan future policy.

This session has a special meaning to UIL as it is the first to be held after the change of legal status of the Institute from a German foundation into a full-fledged international entity. During this process of transformation the Institute was renamed the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning.

On 21 May, the Standing Committee - the Bureau of the Board - will hold its meeting. It consists of three Governing Board members including the Chair and the Vice Chairperson. A representative of the Director-General is ex-officio member. It is serviced by the Director or Deputy Director.

On 18 May, prior to the Governing Board meeting, the Editorial Board of the International Review of Education (IRE) will meet. The IRE, published by UIL, is the longest-running international journal on the comparative theory and practice of formal and non-formal education.
