Now available in French: Promoting Health and Literacy for Women’s Empowerment
Promoting Health and Literacy for Women’s Empowerment, the third publication in a research study series on literacy and women’s empowerment published by the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL), is now available in French.
Two-thirds of the world’s 759 million adults who cannot read or write a simple sentence are women. There is an urgent need to provide them with lifelong learning opportunities that will also empower them to make informed decisions about health and well-being. This paper identifies best practices of literacy programmes from all world regions that comprise health and gender equality. Based on the analysis of the interaction between the three domains of education, health and empowerment, the paper further calls on stakeholders to adopt cross-sectoral approaches in view of the multidimensional 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The literacy programmes included in this publication can also be found on the UNESCO Effective Literacy and Numeracy Practices Database (LitBase).
The first two publications in this research study series are:
- Literacy and Education for Sustainable Development and Women’s Empowerment;
- Literacy and Women’s Empowerment: Stories of Success and Inspiration.
Both publications are available in English, French and Spanish.
