Regional CONFINTEA VI Follow-up Meeting
A Regional Expert Meeting for the Follow up of CONFINTEA VI in Africa is foreseen for September 2012, hosted by the Government of Cape Verde in Praia. It will aim at increasing the participation of youth and adults in learning and education. The meeting is jointly organized by the Department of Adult Education of Cape Verde, UIL and the UNESCO Regional Offices in Africa, notably the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Education in Africa (BREDA; based in Dakar), and in cooperation with the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). The meeting hopes to bring together youth and adult education specialists from national governments, international and regional development organizations and civil society organizations, representing the four sub-regions of Africa. Apart from assessing the progress in implementing the Belem Framework for Action in countries and at regional level, the meeting will focus on the review and analysis of successful examples of youth and adult learning policy and practice, the identification of factors that are conducive to successful policy and practice with a particular view towards increasing participation and equity, the development of regional collaborative forward-looking strategies and action points as well as the respective capacities. More than anything, the meeting intends to be more than “another talking shop”. Overall, it means to be smaller in scope, but more focus and driven towards tangible follow-up action. The concept has been drafted, but is still in discussion among the various partners and will be finalized shortly, together with the final date of the meeting.
