Mandates

To operationalize the mandated concepts and to complement UNESCO's efforts to "reorient education in support of Sustainable Development", the SEA-CLLSD will undertake the following activities, which will cut across the Main Lines of Action (MLA) of UNESCO's Education for Sustainable Development programme as contained in 34 C/4 Medium Term Strategy (2008-2013), 34 C/5 Approved Programme and Budget (2008-2009), and the draft 35 C/5 Programme and Budget (2010-2011): Capacity building / training to re-orient existing education programme towards sustainable development Research to improve the quality of Basic Education Advocacy and Social Mobilization to develop public awareness and understanding of important role of education as a tool to promote sustainable development Capacity building/training: To develop more specific learning content and curricula in different areas of concern to ESD as part of early childhood care and education, as well as primary and secondary school To integrate teacher training and TVET institutions in the SEA sub-region to fully integrate concepts of ESD in their learning and teaching processes Research and development: To develop the relevant ESD indicators in accordance with MLA 1, and MLA 3 To build framework and guidelines for curriculum change geared towards re-orienting education in support of sustainable development in the SEA sub-region Advocacy and social mobilization: To contribute in strengthening international coordination and partnership in support of the Decade of ESD by "advocating ESD among policy makers, civil society and the private sector", in accordance with MLA
