Following a decision of the General Conference of UNESCO (26 C/5 01334), the UNESCO Institute for Education was asked to produce, in cooperation with Member-States as well as with other cooperation agencies, an analysis of world trends in educational research on adult education. Following CONFINTEA a meeting was held at the UNESCO institute for Education bringing experts on adult learning and work to discuss and debate issues on work, education and the future, and to come to a joint statement. It was also at this meeting that proposals were made for UIE’s round table on adult learning and the future of work. The general objective of the Conference was to highlight the importance of adult learning and to forge a world-wide commitment to adult and continuing education in the perspective of lifelong learning.
