Donors and partners

The Institute’s activities are funded mainly by the voluntary contributions from three donor countries: Germany, Sweden and Norway.

 

 

Intergovernmental organizations

Apart from essential collaborations with UNESCO Headquarters, the regional bureaux, cluster offices and other UNESCO Institutes and Centres like the UNESCO International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP), UNESCO International Bureau of Education (IBE), UNESCO International Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (UNEVOC) and UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS), UIL also attaches great importance to cooperation with other intergovernmental organisations. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Other regional cooperation agencies and development banks, as well as initiatives to further South-South cooperation.

 

 

Partnering with UIL

Realizing the potential of lifelong learning takes political commitment and the development of cross-sectoral, multi-level policies and plans based on a proven knowledge of what works. It is crucial, therefore, that UIL work closely with partners at every level – local, national, regional and global – to develop projects and programmes; to advise, support and monitor progress; and to disseminate results as widely as possible.

Some countries have put lifelong learning at the heart of their plans for economic development; others have ambitions to become learning societies. Hundreds of cities are striving to adapt the learning city model to their specific context. UIL is working hard to strengthen existing partnerships, and to forge new ones, in order to build on this progress. Only through collaboration can we identify practical, coherent solutions to the problems Member States face. When we work together, we are much more than the sum of our parts.
